Arranging a vehicle for a road trip through Peru

Trivium
A road trip through the ancient Incan sites in Peru has been a long-time dream. The flight leaves in just a couple of weeks and the plane tickets are already sitting on the desk. Places like Machu Picchu sound incredible for anyone into deep history. A self-drive route seems like the best way to handle the whole journey across the country. Can a vehicle be sorted out beforehand to be ready and waiting right at the Lima airport?

The altitude changes in the Andes catch a lot of flatland drivers completely off guard. A sturdy vehicle is an absolute must for those steep mountain passes. Generally the daily rates are looking pretty reasonable with Hertz at the moment. Plus you can occasionally find a solid crossover at Alamo, their fleet holds up well on those rougher roads.

Massive flights to South America completely drain all energy by the time the wheels touch the tarmac. Local counter staff often use that extreme exhaustion to push crazy expensive insurance upgrades on arriving tourists. You can check options to rent a car in Peru right here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/peru . A solid four wheel drive from those listings makes navigating the rural routes toward the ruins way safer. The mountain paths get pretty unpredictable after sudden rainstorms, so proper traction keeps the whole journey moving smoothly.
